My Eye

My name is Steph Macleod and I’m a singer/songwriter from Edinburgh, Scotland.  I have a vast number of influences over the years which have led me to having a diverse style.  Between the creativity of musical composition and the adrenaline thrill of the gig is what keeps me on this strange path of discovery.

Looking outward from myself, it has been a great privilege to meet so many amazing people in the last couple of years.  I have, as it were, had my problems with Alcohol Addiction which led to other unfortunate circumstances.  At the very bottom of the rock I had crawled under I found my redemption at a homeless hostel in Edinburgh.  The guys there helped me get clean and deal with all sorts of stuff.  In dealling with all the crap that was on the inside, I needed an ‘out’.  So I picked up the acoustic guitar (something that was quite alien to me as I had been classically trained on the guitar at music college) and started writing songs.

The content of these songs were what was close to my heart at the time; homelessness, alcohol addiction, recovery, etc.  It just poured out of me, if you would pardon the use of words.

I recorded about 7 of these tracks at a wee recording studio on Easter Road and stuck them up on the mighty MySpace.  And things haven’t been the same since.  I’ve been gigging for about 2 years, done my share of festivals, and my first album is on its way to being finished.  It’s all very exciting.

So here on the blog my hope is to have an online diary, gig calendar, and a few other things that might be of interest to folk out there.

Just wanted to say thanks to God, my very loving and supporting wife, the legend that is Rick Allerdice (AKA – DJ Buddha) – my friend and Manager, Mum, Martin Stephenson, Everyone at the AF Collective, Paddy and Mick (NOT A JOKE!), the Winey Shuffle, the Boiler Room (Andy), Rocca at Leith FM, and everyone else who has helped me get to where I am today.  And of course – the people who make the effort to come to the gigs and listen to the music.  Thanks for everything!
